Visit 2: Febuary 2008
After seeing the silo in the daylight, I arranged to go back with bubblehead to get some night time shots of them and the view. I also wanted to make sure I went to the very top of the silo roof this time as well.
We made our way accross the site toward the silos, rubble is tricky to navigate in the dark. We reached the silo building, stopped to put on gloves, head torches etc and then climbed inside and began the ascent. It didn't seem to take as long to get the top this time, probably just because this time I had an idea how long it was going to take. We decieded to go to the very top first.
The door put us out on the roof of the conveyor / screw the runs over the tops of the silos. To get from this roof to the top of the tower was a dodgy looking ladder, it lacked any kind of cage round it - it looked a bit dubious. We climbed up the top and got setup - trying to get some good pictures. It was misty, and this kind of height it wasn't too good for the cameras - water forming on the lenses. We headed down to the next level down
I don't know if it was because it was dark, or i'm just becoming more accustomed to heights - but I wasn't as worried being up there this time. Spent quite a while on the silo roof level, took plenty of pictures, got soaked shuffling down the concrete roof on my arse - which wasn't too great!
Heading back down to ground level we headed away from the silos, curious to see what else had been demolished since our last visit. I took a couple of shots looking back over at the silos, bubblehead disappeared into a collapsed chimney and began snapping away.
It looked like a good location to me, so i climbed up and got some shots too. Headed back over the silos after that, to get some shots looking up from the base.
